In July 2023, construction commenced on Newcastle Airport's $110 million terminal expansion project. This upgrade includes a 50% increase in terminal size, new customs and immigration facilities, and a Code E runway capable of accommodating wide-bodied aircraft like the Boeing 787 and Airbus A330.
